Thomas Mathie

August 3, 1964 — October 3, 2016

Thomas Michael Mathie a/k/a musky man

Born: August 3, 1964

Born to Eternal life: October 3, 2016

Thom was taken from us way too soon after fighting a courageous battle with brain cancer.

He is survived by his best friend, and wife of 25 years, Lisa Mox Mathie of Barrington, IL. He is the super proud father of Madeline (Maddie) Mathie who is just starting her college career at DePaul University. Thom is the son of James and Barbara Mathie of Sussex, WI. He is son-in law to Evelyn Mox of Barrington, IL and the late Dana Mox.

Growing up in Menomonee Falls, WI, Thom was the fifth of seven children; James (Patricia) Mathie of Waukesha, WI, Patricia (John) Lorbiecki of Maple Grove, MN, Edward (Carol) Mathie of Edina, MN, William (Susan Amendolara) Mathie of Edinboro, PA, Bridget (Andrew) Ferguson of St. Paul, MN, and John (Anne) Mathie of West Bend, WI.

He is also survived by three brothers-in-law: Mark (Susan) Mox of San Jose, CA, Kris (Amor) Mox of Miami, FL and Scott Mox of Barrington, IL.

Thom and Lisa raised Maddie in Barrington and at Wah-Ca-Zi-Zi on Tomahawk Lake near Minocqua. Thom was a great lover of life and a wonderful positive force for many. An avid fisherman, with many photos, videos and trophies to show his prowess, he instead enjoyed best getting others their first musky. He was well-known throughout the north woods of Wisconsin for his row trolling (in a boat he designed and built), kayaking, four wheeling and biking. He was a vast storehouse of knowledge on virtually any topic of discussion.

Thom was a best friend to several brothers. Thom will be dearly missed by many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was a valuable and indispensable friend to so many - in all different walks of life - who originally met him merely by chance.

A Memorial Service to celebrate Thom’s life will be held at Barrington United Methodist Church, 98 Algonquin Road, Barrington, Illinois 60010, on Saturday, November 5, 2016. Visitation at Noon, service at 1:00 p.m. All friends and family are invited to join Lisa and Maddie at McGonigal’s Pub, 105 South Cook Street, Barrington, immediately following the service.

In Lieu of flowers, a Go Fund Me college fund has been established to help Thom fulfil his dream of supporting his daughter, Maddie, to receive her college education.
