Tom Lubecke, 72, of Barrington passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on May 21, 2017, after a courageous 4 year battle with cancer. He was born on December 23, 1944 to Dennis and Sally (nee Thuerk) Lubecke.
Throughout his inspirational fight, Tom continued to remain active, restoring salvaged furniture to sell at Randolph St Market with his daughter and helping his son renovate his home in Colorado. Always a proud father, Tom enjoyed passing along his skills and knowledge to his children even during intensive chemotherapy.
Tom was extraordinarily involved in the community. As a master carpenter, he volunteered his talents to help his neighbors and local schools. He spent countless hours actively involved in his children's lives, coaching his daughter's softball teams and holding baseball practice with his son. An avid sports fan, he supported the Cubs, Blackhawks, Bears and Ohio State Football and saw each win a championship.
Tom was a proud veteran of the United States Army, where he served during the Vietnam War Era guarding against the Soviet invasion of Germany and inspired his son to pursue a career of service as an Army officer.
Tom will be deeply missed by his children, Ash (Samantha) and Taylor Lubecke; his siblings, Donald, Dennis, Gay, Joy and Judy; and his granddogs, Daphne, Czar and Wrigley. He is preceded in death by his parents, Dennis and Sally, and his sister Marilyn "Cookie" Lubecke.
A Celebration of Tom’s life will be held at Makray Golf Club in Barrington on Friday June 23 from 6-9pm.
