Tim Dilsaver, 65, of Fox River Grove passed away peacefully at home with his wife and son by his side on March 16, 2021. He was born on September 27, 1955 in Evanston, Illinois to Carl and Joanne (Herschbach) Dilsaver. He is survived by his wife Susan (Heffner), son Timothy Jr., and father Carl Dean Dilsaver. He was preceded in death by his mother.
Tim attended Drake University where he earned a degree in journalism. He used that degree to make training and safety videos, from there he went on to sell Mylar balloons for many years. His favorite job, which was also his passion, was working for PACE Suburban Bus where he was a community liaison. He worked for PACE until the day before he went into hospice care.
Tim’s joy for life was infectious. He had a laid back manner and a laugh that would put everyone around him at ease. His deep rich voice captivated the room when he recounted stories, bringing laughter to all those around him.
He could tell you the make, model and year of every car he passed, but he was particularly fond of cars from the 1950-1970's. His greatest possession was his 1973 Pontiac Firebird that he bought after graduating from Fremd High School in 1973.
His impressive knowledge of all music was enough to win him more than a couple of “Name That Tune” contests. He would only need a few notes to know any song that came on.
The history of WWII was fascinating to Tim. He loved the movies, music and airplanes from that era.
Over the years he amassed a vast collection of antique English Corgi Toy cars. Each one a special find, as he could tell you when and where each one was purchased.
Jake and Elwood are the family’s two year old Maine Coon cats that were a joy to have during Tim’s time of physical struggle. Jake followed Tim everywhere and was always lying on Tim’s feet while he rested.
Standing on the beach at sunset to watch the changing sky was one of Tim’s favorite places to be. He also enjoyed the quiet times spent at his cabin in Wisconsin.
It meant so much to Tim that his best friend of over 50 years, Bob, was always nearby during the journey through his illness.
Tim will be deeply missed by his college sweetheart of 47 years, Susan. He passed away just short of their celebrating forty years of marriage in April. Their son, Timmy, will miss his partner for road trips and "excellent adventures” which have been going on for decades. The Tims had a father/son bond like no other.
