Trent Steckel

Crystal Lake, Illinois,CRYSTAL LAKE ? Trent David Steckel, 24, of Crystal Lake, died tragically Friday, July 2, 2010. He was born Nov. 8, 1985, in Springfield, Mo., to Leighton Steckel Jr. and Heather (nee Brown) Weiss. He was a valued member of the Woodstock Fire Department and was looking forward to his paramedic training this fall. He enjoyed cooking, camping, snowboarding, hiking, and of course football which he excelled at. He was a member of the Phi Theta Kappa fraternity. He graduated from Eastern Illinois University with a bachelor?s degree in sociology. While at Eastern Illinois University, he was a member of the football team and was a tight end for the Panthers. While in high school, he played for Crystal Lake South as a running back. He is survived by his mother and her husband Thomas Weiss of Crystal Lake; his father; his siblings, Blake (Anna) of Crystal Lake, Kelly of New York, N.Y. and Sheri Steckel of Phoenix, Ariz.; his grandparents, David and Caryl Brown of Naperville; his uncles, Scott of Naperville, Todd (Donna) of Aurora, and Keith (Linda) Brown of Naperville. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Leighton M. Sr. and Betty Steckel.
