Valentin G. Anguelov

Valentin Anguelov “Our Beloved Val” passed away peacefully Friday morning, July 28, 2017 surrounded by his wife, two daughters and his parents.  He was born in Bulgaria, Europe on August 3, 1959.

Val graduated with a degree in Aeronautical Engineering.  Upon graduation he enlisted in the military in the Special Forces Division.

In 1981 Val married his high school sweetheart, Emilia.  They spent 36 wonderful years together and raised two daughters, Ginka “Jonna,” as he loved to call her and Elitza “Ellie.” The family moved to Chicago in 1997.

Valentin’s biggest passion in life was The Giant Slalom Skiing and Heli-Skiing.  When he was young he earned Gold, Silver and Bronze medals for skiing at a national level.  When he wasn’t on the slopes, he enjoyed being in the water either jet skiing or kayaking.    Val was a national bronze medalist in kayaking.  He also had a deep love for speed, sports cars and motorcycles which led him to attend and graduate from the Skip Barber NASCAR School of Racing.

Val was a devoted grandfather of three who loved playing with his grandkids, Alek, Andreas and Liv Inez.  He loved taking them fishing, playing Chess with them and teaching them to play on his guitar.   During his free time, he enjoyed watching soccer with his family and listening to his favorite German rock band, The Scorpions, along with Pink Floyd, The Bee Gees, and Queen.

To honor Val’s wishes a private family farewell will be held before his cremation. A portion of his ashes will be scattered on the top of the Rocky Mountains in Breckenridge, CO and also on the coast of the Black Sea in Bulgaria.

A mass will be held for close friends and family at St. Sophia Orthodox Church in Des Plaines.

Memorial donations may be made in Val’s name to the  Shining Stars Foundation at www.shiningstarsfoundation.org, an Aspen, CO foundation that provides an outdoor program for adaptive skiing and snowboarding for children with pediatric cancer.  If you would like to send flowers, please send them to the family at 1031 Noelle Bnd, Lake in the Hills, IL 60156.

Christ, our eternal Kind and God, give rest, Lord, to the soul of your servant, Valentin, who has fallen asleep, in Your Kingdom, where there is no pain, sorrow or suffering.  Amen
