Vera Malovance

Vera P. Malovance, 94, of Barrington, IL and Munster, IN., fell asleep in the Lord on Monday, January 16, 2017. She is survived by her son Gregory (Lisa); daughter, Nona Rutter (Dane ); grandchildren Adam (Masha), Rachel Vann (Ryan) and Andrew(Elizabeth); and great grandchildren Harrison William and Henry Franklin Vann. She was preceded in death by her husband, William; her father, the Very Rev. John Rusyn ; her mother Matushka Anna Rusyn; and her sister, Doris Rusyn.
Visitation 4-8 pm, Thursday, January 19 at Holy Resurrection Orthodox Church, 1449 N. Quentin Rd., Palatine, IL. with a Memorial Service (Panikhida) at 7:00 pm. The funeral service will be celebrated at Holy Resurrection on Friday morning, January 20, at 10:00 am with the Rev. Alexander Kuchta officiating. Burial will be at 1:00 pm on January 20 at the Holy Ghost Cemetery, 6830 Northcote Ave. in Hammond, IN.
As the daughter of an Orthodox Christian priest and matushka, Vera’s was a life of service and stewardship to her family, the Church and to all with whom she shared her grace and shining light. She served her country during World War II in the U.S. Navy as a communications specialist in Washington D.C. She served her Church as a soprano in the choir led by her husband.
She was a devoted member and past president of the Ladies Altar Society and the Sodality at Descent of the Holy Spirit Orthodox Church and Protection of the Virgin Mary Orthodox Church. When various family members became ill or otherwise needed assistance, she tirelessly committed her days to serving their needs. Even in her last few years when it appeared as if she needed to be cared for, Vera remained the matriarch of the family, showing by example her grace and love for everyone around her. To her last days she was a joy and an inspiration. May Vera’s memory be eternal!
