Verna Elliott

Crystal Lake, Illinois,Verna E. Lowrey Elliot Verna Elizabeth Elliot (nee Bennett), 86, of Crystal Lake, Illinois, passed away January 9, 2011 in Wheeling, IL.. Born in Louisville, Kentucky, November 28, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Arlie E. and Hazel L. (nee Smith) Bennett. Verna and her husband Tom raised their three children in Odessa, Texas where she graduated from Columbia College and enjoyed working at Sherwin Williams as a home decorator. She was a member of the First Methodist Church where she also taught Sunday school. Verna was involved in Cub Scouts and Brownies as she loved sharing her time and love with children. Her excellent Southern cooking was always anticipated and enjoyed with pleasurable relish! Verna would gather frequently with family and friends at each other?s homes to play their favorite card game, "Bridge". She was a devoted grandparent and generously shared her love, nurturing and caring for her young grandchildren. In her later years she moved to Illinois and resided at "The Fountains" and "Greek American" where she was always praised as kind and considerate. Verna?s presence was fondly enjoyed by her many new friends and caregivers who along with her family will miss her dearly. Her survivors include her loving children, Cynthia "Cindy" (Dale) Lowrey Johnson of Algonquin, Illinois, and Thomas (Jan) Webster Lowrey Jr. of Amarillo, Texas; cherished grandchildren, Kyle and Kara Johnson and Thomas W. Lowrey III; and many caring nieces and nephews who reside in Kentucky. She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband Thomas W. Lowrey, her second husband George W. Elliot, her daughter, Candice Elizabeth Lowrey and her brother Buddy Bennett. Memorial Visitation to be held in Kentucky at a later date.
