Victor E Gieseke, 87, Crystal Lake was born Nov 19, 1922 in Mt. Prospect, IL, to Arthur and Edna (nee Rodewald) Giesekeand moved to Crystal Lake at the age of 4 years. He was united in marriage to Ruth E. Benson on May 18, 1946 in Immanuel Lutheran Church in Crystal Lake where he was still a member and served on several different committees.
He was employed by ComEd for 37 years as an overhead lineman and served in the US Navy in World War II in the South Pacific as a Torpedo Man. He served as vice president of Nunda Algonquin Insurance Company for 20 years.
In retirement he volunteered for the Crystal Lake food pantry for over 15 years. In his free time he enjoyed traveling in the US and abroad and taking fishing vacations in Wisconsin, and spending winters in Florida.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, son Thomas (Vicky) Gieseke of Sarasota, Florida, daughter Judy LaZonby of Crystal Lake, IL, three grandchildren, Jaclyn (nee LaZonby) (Nick) Radeni of Crystal Lake, Morgan Gieseke and Jesse Gieseke of Sarasota, FL, one brother, Glen (Nancy) Gieseke of Crystal Lake, sister-in-law Alice (Norman) Lodtz, Crystal Lake, IL and Bradenton, FL and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers-in-law, Maurice ""Bing"" Benson and Harold Benson.
