Virgil Del Ghingaro, 86, of Lakewood, was born December 15, 1931 in Painesdale, MI to Frank and Pauline (nee Raffaelli) Delghingaro. He passed away peacefully on Friday, September 28, 2018 in Barrington.
Virgil was a proud Korean War Veteran of the Army, who was awarded a Bronze Star. He proudly started his own family business, Brolite Products, and worked alongside his family up until his final days. He was an avid hockey player, coach and fan, and also enjoyed playing golf. The most important thing in Virgil’s life was his family. He loved his wife, and children, but especially enjoyed being a “papa”.
He will be missed by his wife of 63 years, Patricia (nee Matterer) Del Ghingaro; his children, Deborah (Michael) O’Donnell, Caryn (Steve) Roderick, and David (Kristen) Del Ghingaro; his grandchildren, Jessica (Dan), Kristin (Jim), Becky (Joe), Michael II, Jennifer (John), Stephanie (Daniel), Samantha, Ryan, Sydney, and Dominique; 15 great grandchildren; and his brother, Dean (the late Karen) Del Ghingaro.
Virgil is preceded in death by his siblings, Juan Del Ghingaro, Frank Del Ghingaro, Jr., and Jeanette Scully; and his parents.
A visitation will be held from 3-9pm, Thursday, October 4, 2018 at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake. Visitation will continue from 9:30am until time of funeral Mass at 10:30am, Friday, October 5, 2018 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, 1023 McHenry Ave., Crystal Lake. Interment will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions, in memory of Virgil, may be given to the V Foundation for Cancer Research, www.jimmyv.org.
