The Mass of Christian Burial for Walter Fred Stanke,80, of South Barrington, will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, December 12, at St. Anne Church, 120 N. Ela St. (at the corner of Franklin and Ela Streets), Barrington, where he will lie in state from 9 a.m. until the time of the mass.  Burial will be in All Saints Cemetery, Des Plaines.  Visitation 4-8 p.m., Sunday, December 11 at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 149 W. Main St. (Lake-Cook Rd.), Barrington.  Born December 4, 1931 in Chicago, he passed away December 5, 2011 at his home.

 Walter served in the US Army.  With a B.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois and an M.B.A. from the University of Chicago, he worked as an engineer for Amoco Oil Company from 1953 until 1991.  He was a licensed professional engineer in Illinois, and a member of Chi Epsilon professional fraternity.  Walter was a member of St. Anne Church.  He served as a Scout Master for the Boy Scouts for 13 years in South Holland, IL.  He enjoyed being with the family, camping, boating, traveling, and canoeing the wilderness. 

 Survivors include his wife, Joan Marie (nee Steggers), whom he married August 23, 1958 in Chicago; 4 children, Mark Joseph (Theresa) Stanke, Marianne Jo (James Trofimuk) Stanke, Suzanne Louise (Conrad) Figueroa, and John Walter (Sara) Stanke; 5 grandchildren, Kathryn, Kyle, Kurt, Ryan, and Evan Stanke; sister Lenore (Nicholas) Clesceri; aunt Florence Richter; 7 cousins, and 16 loving nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Elinor (nee Schuster) Stanke.
