Walter Philip Wasylowsky

August 27, 1937 — July 13, 2022

Davenport Barrington

Walter Philip Wasylowsky, 84, of Barrington, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on July 13, 2022. He was born August 27, 1937, in Chicago, IL to Philip and Anna (nee Wolosyzn) Wasylowsky.

Wally earned his bachelor’s in accounting from Roosevelt University, as well as an MBA from the University of Chicago. He served his nation as a proud member of the United States Naval Reserve. He began his career at International Harvester, where he quickly moved up the ranks. In 1964, he moved his family overseas and lived in Belgium and Germany for a total of 13 years. During that time, they traveled extensively throughout Europe, where they were blessed to have met many life-long friends. In 1977 they moved to Barrington and lived there happily where Wally truly enjoyed sailing, canoeing, and swimming in his beloved Lake Louise. He later retired from Magna Power after a successful career.

Wally was an integral part of his family's life and family was his top priority. His children and grandchildren were blessed to have him as a role model and often sought his advice. He was a selfless mentor and his success inspired those who surrounded him. He believed in hard work and determination and the importance of an education.

Wally’s family and friends enjoyed his unique sense of humor, his stories, and his jokes. He cared greatly about his pets, outdoor wildlife, and taking care of his garden. He lovingly bought his wife flowers and candy whenever he had the chance. He enjoyed sharing his knowledge about the stock market and how to be financially literate. His life lessons were heeded by all his grandchildren and will be passed on for generations.

Walter is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Elaine; his children, Jeff Wasylowsky and Laura (Ron) Fishman; and his grandchildren, Joey, Steven, Alex, Chris, Elizabeth, and Madi. He is preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Geraldine Bartels.

The funeral Mass will be held Saturday, July 30, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. with visitations beginning at 9:30 a.m. at St. Anne Catholic Church, 120 Ela St, Barrington, IL 60010.
