Warren Schmitt, 92, of Long Grove, Illinois, went to his eternal rest on September 28, 2021. He was born in Teaneck, New Jersey, on February 3, 1929, third son of Whitney Alexander Schmitt and M. Kathleen (nee Wheeler) Schmitt. Warren is survived by his wife of 49 years, Karen (nee Moran); their son Thomas Patrick Schmitt of Chicago; and a nephew, Gregory Schmitt, of New Jersey.
On November 12 at 10:00 a.m., a Mass in celebration of life will be held at St. Francis de Sales Church, 33 S. Buesching Road, in Lake Zurich. A gathering at the Reed-Turner Woodland Nature Center on Old McHenry Road in Long Grove will follow.
A biography of a life well lived: Upon graduation from high school, Warren enlisted in the US Army and served in Germany and France in the last years of World War II. Warren then went on to Niagara University where he earned an accounting degree in 1952. After graduation, however, he was drawn back into uniform and served in Japan during the Korean War. Captain Schmitt was honorably discharged in 1954.
Back in the private sector, Warren joined Allstate Insurance Company. His career with Allstate spanned thirty-eight years and five states. Warren retired in 1992 as a Director of Information Security at the home office in Northbrook.
Warren was devoted to his family and his community. The list is long: from Indian Guides and soccer coaching, involvement in parish life, and teaching computers to seniors, Warren was also an active participant in Long Grove government and service organizations. He served as a village trustee for four years, was a founding member of the Lions Club, chaired the Village Conservancy Committee, and was a director on the Long Grove Fire District Board. He was an advocate for enhancing the lives of senior citizens, the preservation of our heritage, and promoting environmental awareness.
Loyalty, commitment, and service defined this man of honor. He will truly be missed.
The family has designated the following charities for memorial donations: St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, Memorial I.D. 2261598, In Memory of Warren R.
