Born January 6, 1931 in Dekalb, IL to Gertrude and Harry Macklin, he passed away peacefully September 10, 2014 in Woodstock, surrounded by his loving family.
Wayne served in the United States Army 1952-1954, stationed in Munich, Germany during the Korean Conflict. He graduated with honors from University of Illinois in Champaign with a degree in agriculture.
Wayne was employed at Charter International Oil for 22 years, where he held several management positions, and Alexander Chemical Corp, as partner.
Wayne was an avid sports fan and served as an usher for the Chicago Cubs for eight years after he retired. He also enjoyed fishing, boating, golfing, and traveling with his wife, taking many river cruises.
He was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, where he served as usher for many years, and the Crystal Lake Country Club since 1978.
Wayne cherished the time he spent with his family, and attending his grandchildren’s events, from sports to music. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather that will be missed by many.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Joan (nee Montavon), his high school sweetheart, whom he married July 12, 1952; children, Julie Bruner (Tom Stejskal), and John Macklin (Tammy Johnson); grandchildren, Kelly Bruner, and Avery and Jack Macklin; brother Ronald (Elsie) Macklin; sister Betty (late Robert) Sanders; sisters-in-law Carol (late Cork) Holmes, and Norma (late Verner) McPherron; and many nieces and nephews. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be held from 4-8pm Monday, September 15 at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave (Route 176), Crystal Lake.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10am Tuesday, September 16, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 451 W. Terra Cotta Ave (Route 176) Crystal Lake. Prayers will be at 9:15am at the funeral home followed by a procession to the church. Burial in Crystal Lake Memorial Park will follow mass.
