The memorial service for Willard “Bill” R. Grabenkort, 99, will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, May 29, at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 337 Ridge Rd., Barrington Hills, IL 60010. The Reverend David Gibbons will officiate. Private burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Barrington.

There will be a visitation from 3-6 p.m., Wednesday, May 28, at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 149 W. Main St. (Lake-Cook Road), Barrington.

Born May 13, 1915, in Barrington, he passed away Saturday, May 24, at JourneyCare Hospice, Barrington.

Bill was a 1933 graduate of Barrington High School, attended Northwestern University, was an avid golf enthusiast, and a world traveler. He served in the Army Air Corps during WWII in France and England. Bill enjoyed a 38-year career at Marshall Field and was a longtime member of Salem United Methodist Church and St. Mark’s Episcopal Church.

Survivors include his sons, Rob (Julie) Grabenkort. of Duluth, GA and Bruce Grabenkort of Barrington; granddaughters, Beth Grabenkort and Bonnie (Chris) Currie; great-granddaughter, Annie Currie; and brother, Norris Grabenkort of San Diego, CA.

Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie Grabenkort (nee Plagge); parents, Frederick and Emma (nee Pomeroy) Grabenkort; siblings, Earl (Betty Lou) Grabenkort, Janice (Wes) Larson, Wayne (Ione) Grabenkort, and Evelyn Grabenkort; and sister-in-law, Edith Grabenkort.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Bill’s name may be made to St. Mark’s Episcopal Church or JourneyCare Hospice, 405 Lake Zurich Rd., Barrington, IL 60010, or www.journeycare.org.
