William A. Davenport

William “Bill” Davenport – Cary
Born September 2, 1936 in Chicago to the late Archie William and Josephine Elizabeth (nee Hixson) Davenport, Bill passed away peacefully on August 17, 2017 at the age of 80.

Bill was a proud veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served during the Cold War as a cryptologist from 1954-58. Bill earned his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Oklahoma during his service in the USAF. He went on to receive a Master’s degree from Northwestern University’s School of Business during his 29-year career for Spalding.

A lifelong Cubs fan, Bill attended a game of the 1945 World Series and suffered every year after until 2016’s historic championship season. Bill loved a good prank as well as reading, writing poetry, and visiting Hilton Head Island on numerous occasions.

After a first date at Duerkoup’s Drug Store in Bensenville, IL, Bill eventually married Rita Veronica Vuglar on December 2, 1961. In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by his children, Jacqueline (David) Schulenberg of Delray Beach, FL, Jennifer Davenport of Saugatuck, MI, and Joanne (James) Levicki of Cary; his grandchildren, William, Taylor, Jacob, Marlena, Benjamin, Gabrielle, and Lilia; and his siblings, Barbara (Robert) Mallette and Jerry Davenport.

Friends are welcome to visit with Bill’s family on Sunday, August 20 beginning at 3:00 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 7:00 p.m. at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 419 E Terra Cotta Ave (Rte. 176) Crystal Lake.
