Loving cousin to Nancy Axthelm and Stephen Axthelm (Laura); Son of the late William Joseph Deevy III and the late Jeanne Marie Macrae Deevy Larmee, and husband to the late Terry Jennifer Lane Deevy; Favorite of countless friends and confidants. Born on Long Island in Rockville Centre, New York in 1952, Bill was the typical all-American boy, a good student, playing sports, and enjoying/exploring the outdoors.Moving with his family to Arlington Heights, Illinois in 1967, he would attend Loyola Academy where he would make many lifetime friends. It was also where he would earn All-Area honors in baseball, a life-long passion. He continued his baseball career at Dartmouth College, graduating in 1974, after which he would return to Loyola Academy to teach English and French and continue his love of baseball by coaching. After teaching Bill pursued a career as an options-trader at the Chicago Board Options Exchange, his chosen profession for much of his adult life. In his spare time he obtained a law degree from DePaul University.
Married in 1982 to Terry Jennifer Lane they moved in 1986 to Barrington, Illinois where he pursued the REAL joy of his life, raising his three children (Alyx, Samantha, and Max) with Jennifer. No matter the activity with his kids, Bill was there, hands-on. A favorite place for his kids and their friends, the “Deevy House” was the place to have fun in Barrington, and he was the ringleader/headmaster. After Jennifer's death in 2008, Bill reconnected with a friend of the couples, Catherine Williams Koelling. After dating for six years the couple wed in 2015. Welcomed into the Deevy family with Catherine were her two children, Jessen Koelling and Jorie Koelling. With Catherine's involvement in the wine business, Bill became a globe-trotter, traveling with Catherine to Europe, South America, and throughout the United States, becoming famous for wine question “plastic or glass?” when it came to drinking vessels. Besides the love for his wife, kids, family, and friends, Bill had a love for sports and coaching; languages, literature, and learning; hiking, rowing on his Concept2, being forced to run, and dancing with his wife; entertaining everyone by belting out a mean karaoke or reciting the pirate joke. He lived a full and wonderful life. We love you Bill. You will be missed terribly.
