South Barrington, Illinois,William (Bill) Richard Rose, 83, passed away Friday, April 9, 2010 at St. Mary?s Hospital, Rochester, MN, after suffering a heart attack near his home on Marco Island, Florida. Bill was CEO of Rose Packing Company, a meat processing company located in Chicago, founded by his grandfather, Louis A. Rose. He was president of W. R. Rose & Co., president of Ashland Cold Storage Company, a freezer facility in Chicago, owner of Millrose Restaurant, Banquets and Country Store in South Barrington and Rose Marco River Marina on Marco Island, FL. He was a United States Marine Corps veteran and a member of Masonic Lodge AF&AM in Barrington, as well as a member and one of the Founders of the Presbyterian Church of Barrington, IL. He was proud of his Scottish heritage and was a benefactor to the Clan Rose estate in Kilravock, Inverness, Scotland. Bill Rose was born in Corry, Pennsylvania, February 20 1927, and grew up in the Chicago area. He graduated from Valley Forge Military Academy and attended Michigan College of Mining and Technology in the Upper Peninsula. He had a life-long love of flying, holding a current commercial pilot?s license and ratings for single-and multi-engine aircraft, land and sea, and helicopter. He was a proud member of EAA Chapter 790 attending Oshkosh air shows for more than twenty-five years with his many flying friends, Rose?s Raiders. In 1957, Mr. Rose helped found the Village of South Barrington, as he was fond of saying, "on his kitchen table," and was a member of the first South Barrington Police Force. He was a philanthropist of great generosity for South Barrington, Marco Island and the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. Mr. Rose was preceded in death by his father, William A. Rose and his mother, Adalyn (Clinkenbeard) Rose. Mr. Rose and his first wife, Barbara (Blanchard), deceased, were the parents of three children, Peter William(Zofia), Susan (Henry James) Vandenbergh, and Michael Charles, who survive him. Mr. Rose is survived by his wife, Myrtle Anne, and nine grandchildren: Lorna Adalyn (Nathan) Rose Hahn, Louis Raymond Rose, Stuart Blanchard Rose, Spencer Basse Rose, Peter Daniel (Emily) Rose, Paul William (Christi) Rose, Patrick Joseph Rose, Mark James (Amy) Vandenbergh and Erik William (Amanda) Vandenbergh. He is also survived by three great-grandchildren: Emilia Susan Vandenbergh, Benjamin Mark Vandenbergh and Preston Booth Vandenbergh. Bill Rose dreamed many dreams and made them come true. He is now flying free. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 14, 2010 from 3 to 9 p.m., at the Davenport Funeral Home, 149 West Main Street (Lake Cook Rd.), Barrington, IL. His funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, April 15, 2010 at the Presbyterian Church of Barrington, 6 S. Brinker Road, Barrington Hills, IL. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Barrington. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, April 22, 2010 at Marco Presbyterian Church, 875 West Elkcam Circle, Marco Island, FL
