William Scherer

William Robert Scherer was born September 16, 1934 in Barrington.

Bill graduated from Barrington High School and entered the US Army, serving as a Staff Sergeant and tank commander in Erlanger, Germany. Together with his wife Sue, Bill owned and operated Scherer Maintenance, keeping many properties beautiful and expertly maintained throughout McHenry County.

Bill and Sue raised two sons and two daughters in Crystal Lake. Bill loved watching birds, especially loons, and fishing with his beloved grandsons at his summer home on Beaver Island, Michigan. Bill also loved adding doo-dads to his many automobiles, his highly organized toolboxes, and "runnin' and chasin'" around town.

Bill left this life on August 8, 2012, preceded by his grandparents, his mother, father and his daughter Kristine.

Bill is survived by his wife Sue, his children Rob Scherer, Scott Scherer, and Karen "Missi" (Bill) Disch, and his grandsons Matthew (Melissa) McDonald, Patrick (fiancée Sara Preston) McDonald, and Nathan, Jack, and Ben McDonald. Bops' greatest joy came from his many family and friends, and his warm smile and big hugs will be dearly missed.

The visitation will be Sunday, August 12 from 4-8 p.m. at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave. (Route 176), Crystal Lake, and Monday, August 13, from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m., at the funeral home. Interment will be in Windridge Memorial Park, Cary.
