William J. Stanton, 88, of Schaumburg, passed away peacefully at Friendship Village on February 24, 2018.
Beloved husband of Marlys (nee Lawrence) for 65 years; loving father of the late Daniel (Kim), Jeff (Julie), John, and Terri (Rob) Pienkowski; cherished grandfather of Ryan and Kyle (Megan) Stanton, and Hannah and Nadine Pienkowski. He is survived by his sister, Barbara Godfrey, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his son Dan, parents William and Rosalie, and his sister Jane Payne.
William, or Bill as he was called, was born in Chicago, graduated from Taft High School, and later attended University of Illinois as well as Arizona State College. He joined his father in the steel fabrication business after college, and went on to become the president of Chicago Grinding and Machine Company in Melrose Park, IL. He retired from the business in 1999 after over 47 years of successful ownership/employment.
Bill was active in his local church of Saint Anne Catholic Community, having been a resident of Barrington for nearly 50 years. He served in the Compassion Ministry with his wife, distributing communion to the body as well as to parishioners in the hospital and nursing home. He also traveled to Ireland as part of a team that established a Catholic retreat experience in a parish in Benburb. In addition, Bill served as secretary of the Park Barrington Homeowners Association from 1989-1991.
His hobbies included golfing and boating earlier in life, as well as traveling with his wife and family, and spending time with his grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 3, from 1:00pm until the time of Mass at 2:00pm at Saint Anne Catholic Community, 120 N. Ela St., Barrington.
