Willis “Bill” R. Altenburg, 97, of Barrington, passed away, August 1, 2012, at the home he built in 1953.
He was born on May 29, 1915, to August and Theresa Altenburg, in Lake Zurich.
Bill attended Barrington High School where he graduated in 1934. He married classmate, Ruth Walgren in 1936; they were married for 66 years. He was an all-around athlete. For 5 years he played pro baseball and later became a carpenter retiring in 1978. He enjoyed traveling, hunting, fishing and gardening.
Bill is survived by his children, Willis R. (Bonnie Jean) Altenburg and Bonnie Kay (Greg) Clark; grandchildren, Amy (John) Rohlwing, Jeff Altenburg, Megan (Rick Phipps) Clark and Sarah Clark; great-grandchildren, David Kengott, Hannah Rohlwing and Johnny Rohlwing, many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth S. (nee Walgren) and son, Dave Altenburg.
Visitation will be from 4-8p.m., Friday, August 3, 2012, at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 149 W. Main Street, Barrington, IL 60010.
Funeral Service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, August 4, 2012, at St. Paul Church of Christ, 401 E. Main Street, Barrington, IL 60010.
Burial will be held at Evergreen Cemetery, Barrington following service.
