ZhiQiang was known by family and friends as an amazing chef. People often asked ZhiQiang to cook for large gatherings and events. ZhiQiang cooked mostly Chinese cuisine. He possessed an uncanny ability to taste what ingredients go into a dish and was often able to recreate the dish from tasting it once.
An avid fan of basketball. ZhiQiang would follow NBA games closely using an analytical approach towards understanding and enjoying the game. He would often engage in discussions with others about various players and games. As a Chicagoan his favorite team was the Chicago Bulls and his favorite player was none other than Michael Jordan.
Growing up ZhiQiang was an avid student of the game Go. Naturally gifted mathematically and analytically he became a phenomenal player. ZhiQiang studied the game endlessly and often watched online matches in his last days. He once defeated a professional player from the town in which he grew up – Jilin.
He is survived by his wife, Wei Ye; his mother in law, HuiFang Sun; his son, Guanqiu Song; his siblings, DongSong Song, ZhiGang Song, and ZhiFang Song; his sisters in law, JingJing Zhang and HongHong Gao; and his niece and nephews, Lin Song, Yu Song, and GeGe Song.
He was preceded in death by his father, LiShun Song and his mother, WeiZhen Shi.
A visitation will be held from 9am until 12pm, Saturday, March 18, 2017 at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake. A burial will follow at Windridge Memorial Park in Cary.
