Carol A. Miller was born September 1, 1942 in Florham Park, New Jersey. She passed away March 20, 2020 in Barrington surrounded by her loving family.
“Midge,” as she was affectionately called by her oldest friends, studied at Green Mountain College in Poultney, Vermont before finishing her B.A. in Interior Design at Syracuse University in 1964. Carol worked as a designer for a few firms in upstate New York, including Sagenkahn Designed Interiors before moving to the Chicago area and becoming the National Design Coordinator for Sears Roebuck in 1969. In this role Carol had many responsibilities - among them she was the design advisor to seven lines of merchandise, she developed and coordinated national display and packaging programs and she was the design advisor for national TV commercials, sets and catalog layouts. She would leave Sears in 1974 and work at Marshall Field & Company and Tomandl Interiors before opening D2Group & The Bird House Studio in downtown Barrington, Illinois in 1978. Carol loved gardening, all things design, puzzles and competitive mini-golf. Most of all, she loved the friends, clients and neighbors who would become family over the years.
Carol is survived by her life partner, Kent and their daughter Maggie (Joe) Miller. She was preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Grace Miller.
A celebration of Carol’s life will be held at a later date before she is laid to rest with her parents in New Jersey.
