Lillian Russell Riddell, 98, passed away on February 4, 2018. She was born at home in Parkersburg, WV to Lily Violet and Charles Russell Grimm, agent for the B&O Railroad. Lillian attended school in Cumberland, MD and Cincinnati, OH. She received a scholarship to Denison University where she was awarded Phi Beta Kappa in her junior year. She did postgraduate work in sociology at the University of Chicago. Lillian was a member of the Association of University Women and Alpha Xi Delta.
In 1942 Lillian married Lt. Ralph Riddell, an Army Air Corps pilot stationed at Hondo, TX. After the war, the family moved to Chicago where Capt. Riddell became a pilot for Delta C&S Airlines. Lillian served as PTA president of both South Elementary School and Maine West High School while living in Des Plaines. The family moved to Barrington in 1967 where they became active in the Community Church of Barrington. Ralph passed away in 2008 after 66 years of marriage.
Lillian is survived by her sister, Margery Louise Hoffman; sons, C. Randolph (Marion) Riddell of Houston, TX, Todd R. (Karen) Riddell of Sierra Vista, AZ, and daughter, Catherine A. (Ted Bahora) Riddell of Hollow Rock, TN, foster son, Randall (Barbara) Hecht of Atlanta, GA; grandchildren Mark and Scott Riddell, Justin Swigert and Laurel Swigert Wike; and great grandchildren, John R. and Louisa M. Riddell, Charlie and Finley Swigert, and Kiera, Ryker and Journey Wike.
The service for Lillian will be held at 11:30am on Saturday, February 17 at the Community Church of Barrington, 407 W. Grove Ave., Barrington, IL with visitation from 10:00am to 11:30am. A luncheon will follow at the church and burial will take place at Windridge Memorial Park Cemetery, Cary, IL. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Project Hope, www.projecthope.org, or the Community Church of Barrington.
