Richard C. Stoddard, 64, life-long resident of Crystal Lake, passed away unexpectedly at home on June 4, 2022. He was born on August 24, 1957 in Elgin, IL to the late August and Angeline Stoddard.
In 1975, he joined the Crystal Lake Fire Department, where he served his community for 39 years until his retirement in 2014. He was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, where he served from 1976 until 1980. After his retirement from the Fire Department, Rick was employed with the Crystal Lake Public Works in 2015 until 2022.
Rick served as the President of the Crystal Lake Union Cemetery Board. A lifelong passion for camping and an avid fisherman his favorite spot on earth was around a campfire with friends and the love of his life.
Rick's compassion and kind healing heart bestowed a love and protection upon all he touched whether you were in his inner circle or someone he helped during his service or one of his beloved rescue dogs.
Lastly, the purest love he had for his beautiful wife Deborah was a fairytale in the making from the very 1st date. The life they built together was steeped in respect, wild passion and an love most could only dream of. Those privileged to be a part of their journey are blessed to witness this love of 41years.
Rick will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 41 years, Deborah (nee Goss); his dear brother, Charles Stoddard; beloved nieces and nephews, Sarah, Heather, Brandon, James, Caitlain, Nate, Allie, Claire, and Maddie; great-nephews and nieces; and by his cherished godson, Lukas George.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Stoddard.
Visitation will be Saturday, June 11, 2022 from 1 PM until the eulogy service and Fireman’s walkthrough at 4:30 PM at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave. (Rte. 176), Crystal Lake, IL 60014. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Richard’s name can be made to, Helping Paws, 2500 Harding Lane, Woodstock, IL 60098 or to Shriners Hospitals for Children, Attn: Office of Development, 2900 N. Rocky Point Dr., Tampa, FL 33607.
